16.5.2012 Statistics Iceland - Latest 50 Fish catches in April 2012

Total catch of Icelandic vessels in April 2012 was 80,340 tonnes compared to 36,756 tonnes in April 2011. Demersal species accounted for 36 thousand tonnes, thereof cod 16 thousand tonnes, haddock nearly 5 thousand tonnes, redfish 5 thousand tonnes and saithe 4 thousand tonnes.

16.5.2012 Statistics Iceland - Latest 50 Labour force survey, April 2012

The number of persons in the labour force in the April 2012 was 179,500 which correspond to an activity rate of 80%. The number of employed persons was 166,000 and unemployed persons were 13,500. The employment rate was 74% and the unemployment rate was 7.5%.

16.5.2012 Statistics Iceland - Latest 50 The balance of trade in goods was favourable by 97,100 million ISK

In 2011 the goods exported from Iceland amounted to 620,100 million ISK and goods imported into Iceland amounted to 523,000 million ISK fob, 561,600 million ISK cif. Thus there was a trade surplus of goods, calculated on fob value, of 97,100 million ISK whereas the trade surplus in 2010 was 120,200 million ISK.

In March 2012, guest nights in hotels were 134,000 compared with 97,300 in March 2011. Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 77% of total of guest nights in March and increased by 45% compared with March 2011.

According to preliminary figures for April 2012 the value of exported goods amounted to ISK 50,200 million fob and the value of imported goods amounted to ISK 40,800 million fob. Thus, there was a trade surplus of ISK 9,400 million in April 2012, according to the preliminary figures, calculated on fob value.

30.4.2012 Statistics Iceland - Latest 50 Producer prices increase by 2.7% from previous month

The producer price index (PPI) in March 2012 was 223.7 points (4. quarter 2005 = 100), 2.7% higher than in the previous month. The PPI for fish products was 274.6 points which is 2.2% higher than in February 2012 (effect on the index 0.7%) and the PPI for power intensive industry products was 249.9 points, 4.5% higher (1.7%).

In 2011, 11.3% of the Icelandic population lived in a household with housing cost which was over 40% of their disposable income. The housing cost overburden rate was highest for those who live alone, for young people, for people in the lowest income quintile or tenants who pay market rent.
