Statement from the Minister of Business Affairs

The position of the Government of Iceland regarding deposits of branches of Icelandic banks in EEA countries has not changed since November when Iceland reached a common understanding with EU and several of its member states on resolving insolvency matters related to deposit holders in branches of Landsbanki in the UK and Netherlands (Icesave) and Kaupthing Branch in Germany (Edge). On this basis the Parliament of Iceland has granted its mandate to the Icelandic Government to bring these negotiations to a conclusion. Negotiations are still ongoing and will hopefully be finalized shortly.
