Towards Hydrogen Society

9/22/03

Valgerður Sverrisdóttir,
Minister of Industry and Commerce.

Manitoba and Iceland
sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Hydrogen.
Closing Remarks.

22 September 2003

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I want to thank you for all the effort you have made to make this Memorandum of Understanding possible. I want especially to thank the Honorable Tim Sale, Minister of Energy, Science and Technology, for the Province of Manitoba and all his staff for all the effort.

As you know, there is not only people from Manitoba in Canada here today, but also people from the U.S., from Iowa, Minnesota, and North and South Dakota - that have a similar focus on renewable energy as people in Manitoba and Iceland. I want to thank these people for coming to Iceland and the people from the Powering the Plains for organizing the visit to Iceland, not least Brad Crabtree.

I do hope you have enjoyed the visit to Iceland, - despite the weather - and have been able to collect some knowledge and information that can be used for further steps in the area of hydrogen.

I want also to thank his Excellency Richard Teu, Ambassador of Canada, and his Excellency James Gadsden, Ambasssdor of the United States, for their kind words.

We in Iceland, USA and Canada have a lot of possibilities to further co-operation and development in the area of hydrogen by using our creativity, vision, technology, opportunities, and knowledge. In the world of globalization, international co-operation is a key element in many fields – including in the area of hydrogen.

I do hope that our countries will be able to create new opportunities by further steps and co-operation in the field of hydrogen in the future. There are mountains of opportunities ahead.

Dear guests,
I wish you all the best. Thank you.
